Top 10 Best Tablets – February 2012

Since the launch of the original Apple iPad tablet computers have been quietly eating away at the market share once limited to desktop and laptop computers. In the past 12 months tablet computer sales has steadily increased as more and more of us are opting to add a touchscreen device to our arsenal of computer power.

If you happen to be one of the millions of people who are about to step into the world of tablets you may well be wondering which tablet is the best for you and your needs.

Here we take a look at the top 10 tablet computers.

1)      Apple iPad 2

Pros – Amazing graphic and processing power making everything crystal clear and lightning fast.

The iPad 2 is thinner than the first iPad and comes complete with a camera and iOS5. There is quite literally an app for everything.

Cons – There is no HDMI port for connecting the iPad to your TV and there is also no flash support. The rear facing camera on the iPad 2 could be a lot better.

Bottom Line – Love or hate Apple and their products there is no denying that the iPad 2 is still the tablet of choice and the tablet to beat.

Specification –

OS – iOS5, Processor – 1GHz A5, Screen – 9.7 inch 1024×768 pixels, Storage – 16GB, 32GB, 64GB
Apple iPad 2 MC770LL/A Tablet (32GB, Wifi, Black) $580

2)      Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Pros – Looks very slick and feels very light. Has a pretty impressive and powerful processor which gives the Galaxy tab fast performance. The HD screen is a major plus.

Cons – Unfortunately the number of tablet specific apps available are in limited supply.

Bottom Line – Has to be one of the best Android tables that have hit the market so far. Unfortunately the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is no iPad killer but it certainly winds points due to its Flash support.

OS – Android 3.1, Processor – 1GHz, Screen – 10.1 inch 1280×800 pixels, Storage – 16GB, 32GB, 64GB.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 16GB $390

3)      Viewsonic Viewpad 7X

Pros – The viewsonic is a pretty tidy and compact tablet with an NVidia Tegra 2 processor so as you can imagine it certainly packs a punch.

Cons – There are three of your available home pages which cannot be customised or altered.

Bottom Line – The Viewsonic Viewpad is a nice and tidy compact tablet which is amazingly powerful and at a really good price which won’t break the bank.

OS – Android 3.2, Processor – 1GHz Tegra 2, Screen – 7 inch 1024×600 pixels, Storage – 8GB.
Viewsonic V7X_1RNA2US3_01 ViewPad 7-Inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb Tablet $369

4)      Sony Tablet P

Pros – Very portable tablet computer with a super bright and clear screen.

Cons – The battery life is poor and the tablet is a little on the expensive side.

Bottom Line – Not a bad tablet but the price really does let this unit down and make it poor value for money.

OS – Android 3.2, Processor – 1GHz Tegra 2, Screen – Dual 5.5 inch 1024×480 pixels, Storage – 4GB and micro SD.

5)      Sony Tablet S

Pros – There are some PlayStation One games available for this tablet and the screen is bright and easy to type on.

Cons – Battery life is nothing to get excited about and the PlayStation games are really not suited to a touchscreen.

Bottom Line – Seems a lot of money to play PlayStation games but the Tablet S is an innovative and powerful Android tablet.

OS – Android 3.2, Processor – 1GHz Tegra 2, Screen – 9.4 inch 1280×800 pixels, Storage 16GB,
Sony SGPT111US/S Wi-Fi Tablet (16GB)$390

6)      Asus EEE Slider

Pros – Has what looks like a slide out Blackberry QWERTY keyboard.

Cons – This tablet is pretty heavy at almost 1KG.

Bottom Line – A great tablet for those who need an office while on the go.

OS – Android 3.2, Processor – 1GHz Tegra 2, Screen – 10.1 inch 1280×800 pixels, Storage 32GB.
ASUS SL101-A1-WT 10.1-Inch Tablet Computer $479

7)      Asus EEE Pad Transformer

Pros – Has a brilliant screen, great battery life and all at a great price.

Cons – Only comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and does not charge via the USB port.

Bottom Line – A good all round Android tablet which is made better through its keyboard dock.

OS- Android 3.0, Processor – 1GHz Tegra 2, Screen – 10.1 inch 1280×800 pixels, Storage – 16GB, 32GB.
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101-A1 10.1-Inch Tablet $395

8)      Motorola Xoom

Pros – Fast operation combined with a half decent camera.

Cons – The quality of the screen on this tab is poor so you might wish to invest in a screen protector.

Bottom Line – While there is certainly nothing wrong with the Xoom it is let down with its poor screen quality which does not come close to its rivals.

OS – Android 3.0, Processor – 1GHz Tegra 2, Screen – 10.1 inch 1280×800 pixels, Storage – 32GB micro SD.
MOTOROLA XOOM Android Tablet (10.1-Inch, 32GB, Wi-Fi)$435

9)      RIM Blackberry Playbook

Pros – Built for business so has very strong features in this area. Has a very good design and build quality and is Flash enabled.

Cons – The screen is nothing special and does not have the same Wow factor that comes with other tablets.

Bottom Line – A really fantastic offering on the tablet market from Blackberry but as with most Blackberry products it is very under supported when it comes to apps.

OS – Blackberry QNX, Processor – 1GHz, Screen - 7 inch 1024×600 pixels, Storage – 16GB, 32GB and micro SD.
Blackberry Playbook 7-Inch Tablet (16GB) $226

10)   LG Optimus Pad

Pros – Is capable of 3D video so as you can imagine it has a rather good screen along with a powerful processor.

Cons – Is a bit on the chunky side and is expensive. The 3D is not as good as it could be.

Bottom Line – Certainly a quick moving tablet with a gimmick coming in the 3D camera. The biggest downfall here is the over the top price tag.

OS – Android 3.0, Processor – 1GHz Tegra 2, Screen – 8.9 inch 1280×768 pixels, Storage – 32GB.

G-Slate 4G Android Tablet $780

Storage Space

ZipCloud has become synonymous with the word unlimited.  They offer unlimited cloud storage and charge only $4.95 a month.  This is one of the most competitive pricing structures in cloud storage.  It is important to point out that it isn’t just unlimited cloud storage that ZipCloud offers; they also do not limit the amount of files or size of files that you want to store.  This is probably one of the only cloud storage companies that can boast a completely unlimited plan.  Unlimited file size is a big selling point for a lot of customers, especially with movie files that are well over a gig.  Other hosting companies put a cap on the file size, but ZipCloud made a smart move in not limiting their customers.  Large files do cause some problems in speed of backups but that is just the nature of it.  Luckily, it is usually just the initial backup that will take longer and future backups should be much speedier.

Ease of Use

ZipCloud makes it easy for personal cloud storage backup needs or business backup needs for people in the US and UK.  ZipCloud is quickly gaining top billing as the most versatile cloud storage service on the internet.  With a client base from across the globe and a good deal of those represented by the US and UK, customer satisfaction is also rated very highly.  Virtually everything is automated except the initial setup.  You should also try out their free ZipCloud account if you have any reservations about the service.

ZipCloud support can be reached from their website.  It is an email based support system, but the ZipCloud staff is on top of their support requests.
