We all know that if we want to be fit and healthy then we need to exercise and one great way of exercising is by taking a walk. The problem is we all know that most of us would rather use the car than put one foot in front of the other. With the price of fuel rising by the day taking the car to your local shop is becoming increasingly expensive.
If the idea of walking seems like too much hard work then you might want to take a look at these cool little gadgets.
Spnkix, after 5 years and 30 prototypes, have developed a pair of motorized shoes which are set to hit the market in March of 2012. The shoes consist of a reinforced nylon frame which straps on to the users feet in a similar way that ski boots attach to skies.
Each shoe is fitted with an electric motor and a lithium battery. They are then controlled by a handheld wireless handheld remote control. Hopefully each unit operates on a slightly different remote frequency or we feel group rides on these things would be interesting to say the least. The shoes even have reflectors fitted to the rear of them if you fancy taking a roll late at night.
If you like the idea of a pair of shoes that can literally carry you to your destination you may wish to think carefully before you trade your car in. The lithium battery that powers the shoes will last an estimated 2-3 miles and take at least 2-3 hours to charge so the range of them is severely limited. Speed is a totally different matter. If you like to live dangerously these shoes promise to reach speed of around 10 mph which is enough for the shoes to require at least some skill level to drive safely.
You also may want to still get some exercise as the recommended weight of the shoes is 180 pounds.
The shoes are expected to hit the shops on March 12th at a retail cost of $649 ($375 if you pre-order) although this might not actually happen unless the company can raise the necessary $25,000 to get the shoes into production. So far they have raised $13,000
