Let’s face it – computer geeks collect files. Many of them large, some of them illicit, and perhaps even one or two illegal. Hey, we’re not here to judge – we’re here to help! Those files often live on hard-drives that occasionally get upgraded. The old drive gets ripped out in favor of the new in the never-ending effort to increase storage capacity. That doesn’t mean, however, that those old drives have outlived their usefulness.
What you are probably not aware of is that your old hard drives can quite easily be turned into your very own external hard drive which will connect to your computer via the USB port and what is even better news is that you do not need a degree in electronics to do this.
In fact if you want to make your very own external hard drive from an old internal hard drive all you need is a connector which will connect to the hard drives IDE or SATA port and then to your computer’s USB port. You may have heard of these special cables as USB to IDE/SATA cables.
