If you are unlucky enough to turn on your Xbox 360 and see the dreaded Xbox 360 ring of death you will be glad to hear that there is still some hope and you don’t need to start panicking straight away. Believe it or not you might be able to fix and repair the Xbox 360 ring of death with nothing more than a few simple towels.
I must note at this point that you try this ring of death fix at your own risk and you it is advisable to keep a fire extinguisher nearby just in case. If you wish to be really cautious then you may wish to use a circuit breaker on the mains supply to the Xbox 360 as well.
If your Xbox 360 is still under warranty I would not recommend that you attempt to fix your Xbox 360 in this way. You are best advised to send your Xbox 360 back to Microsoft and have them look at it.
It is also worth noting at this point this fix is not always a permanent fix to the Xbox 360 red ring of death but it will give you on average about 4 day’s worth of use before the red ring of death returns.

Instructions how to fix your Xbox 360 red ring of death with towels.
1 – First turn off your Xbox 360 and then disconnect the television cables and the network cable from the unit. Also remove the hard drive from the Xbox 360 to avoid it becoming damaged in this process.
2 – For this step you will need 3 towels. Turn your Xbox 360 on and then wrap it in the first towel making sure that the whole unit is covered. Then use the second towel to wrap it up again and then the third towel to wrap the Xbox 360 yet again. The goal here is to get the Xbox 360 really hot so that the chips on the Xbox 360’s motherboard heat up and reset themselves.
The fact that you are trying to heat up your Xbox 360 is the reason why I advise you keep a fire extinguisher close by.
3 – Now that you have your Xbox 360 wrapped up in 3 towels you need to leave it for approximately 20 – 25 minutes while it gets nice and hot. Obviously don’t leave the Xbox 360 unsupervised just in case a fire starts. I have never had a fire break out yet but you never know.
4 – Once you have baked your Xbox 360 for 20 – 25 minutes, unwrap the towels from it. You will notice that Xbox 360 is still displaying the red ring of death but this does not mean that the repair has failed. Turn your Xbox 360 off and allow it to cool down for around 25 – 30 minutes. Before moving on to the next steps make sure that when you touch the unit it feels nice and cool.
5 – Now that you have let your Xbox 360 cool for 30 minutes and the unit feels cool it is time to refit the hard drive to the Xbox 360 and reconnect the network and television cables to the unit.
6 – Turn your Xbox 360 on and if your fix or repair of your Xbox 360 has been successful then the thing should spring back into life and no more red ring of death.
7 – I have tried this on 7 Xbox 360’s in total. 3 of them have been repaired and are still working fine to this day. The other 4 worked for an average of 4-5 days before they needed to be baked again.
8 – This is done entirely at your own risk.
