Facebook vs. Google Plus and Why Google Plus Will FailFacebook vs. Google Plus and Why Google Plus Will Fail

Not so long ago Google+ was been hailed by many to be a Facebook killer but unfortunately it never really lived up to those claims.

At first, as I am sure most of you will remember, Google + was accessible by invitation only which did add to its appeal then when it became a free for all a lot of people (100 million to be exact) actually signed up just to see what all the fuss was about but then the flames of excitement began to die down and we seem to be sat around yet another burnt out camp fire wondering what all of the fuss was about.

Of course Google is yet to admit defeat and is no doubt still confident that Google + is a real challenge to Facebook and social media websites everywhere.

This leads to the main question about which is better, Google + or Facebook? Well, the truth is Facebook is always going to win this particular fight and Google is destined lose.

Here we take a look at the reasons why.

Facebook Has All the Power.

Google is certainly the top dog when it comes to searching the internet but when it comes to social media websites it is all about Facebook. Not only is it all about Facebook it has been all about Facebook for such a long time now that it is going to be near impossible for anyone else to come along and dislodge the social media giant from its perch.

It is estimated that Facebook has approximately 800 million active users. Can you really imagine even a fraction of them deciding to transfer all of their photos, information and history across to any other social network even if it is Google +?

It is certainly impressive that Google + has managed to gain 100 million users (we are not sure how many of those users are active users) but to put things into perspective for Google to compete with Facebook it is going to have to grow its user base by 8 times its current size and there are already signs that Google plus has stopped growing.

Facebook is Friends with your Friends.

It is a very obvious statement to say that social networks require users and users require friends. Facebook has hundreds of millions of users so it stand to reason that those users are not going to leave their friends on Facebook and migrate on over to Google +.

The only way Google plus could ever work is if suddenly everyone made the jump at the same time and together but that is never going to happen.

Social Gaming.

You have probably noticed that the games on Facebook are very popular. If they were not then you would not be constantly inundated with requests to help on a farm or have your wall graffitied with endless posts about virtual cafes.

Google+ does have a good selection of games for those who enjoy such things but let us not forget that Facebook has had a little bit of a head start in social gaming and can you really see all of those virtual farmers just standing up and walking out on their crops?

Google + is One Social Media Website to Many.

When it comes to social networks we are spoilt for choice as there are quite literally 100’s to choose from all with a supposed different, special and unique angle. Digg, Stumbleupon, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter have all managed to find a niche in the social media market but did we ever really need another to come along even if it was Google.

The bottom line is that Google plus has shown up way too late to the party and it’s now already full. The market is just too saturated.

Google is to Public.

Google + and your Google + profile is all very public. In Google’s own opinion you are the internet and if you don’t wish for something to be public then do not put it on the internet. Bottom line here is if you decide to have a Google + profile then anyone who is anyone can access and view it.

Most people are not all that comfortable with this idea so Facebook is a clear all out winner. This is despite the fact that Facebook has itself managed to attract a lot of negative press when it comes to privacy but the simple fact is with Facebook you do have the option of keeping your profile private from those who you do not wish to have access to your stuff.
