Everyone always assumes that if a zombie apocalypse happened to break out they would be one of the privileged few who would manage to survive. People never consider the very real possibility that they would not survive.
Actually the odds are that most people including yourself would not survive and even if the zombies did not get you there is plenty left in a zombie filled world that will.
Here we look into 4 Reasons You Will Not Survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
Failing to Survive the Outbreak
In the event of a zombie apocalypse most people seem to believe that they would have some form of advance notice of such an outbreak. Well, this is all well and good in theory but the luxury of advance notice may not be something the majority of people get.
The first you are likely to hear of a zombie apocalypse is almost certainly going to be through the media just like the recent cannibal attack in Florida. Of course in today’s modern age there is a really good chance that you will hear about a zombie outbreak on social media website such as Facebook or Twitter. After all, the death of Bin Laden was announced via Twitter.
Now I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that as soon as you were to start seeing reports of zombies you would be up out of your chair and off to safety as quick as your legs would carry you. Right?
The thing is with a zombie outbreak is that if such an outbreak was to succeed it is going to have to sweep across the country very quickly and that means that one minute you will be say watching the news or reading some strangers tweets and then next minute you have a group of zombies knocking at your door. While you are still trying to decide whether or not to believe reports of the dead walking the earth your house is surrounded and there is nowhere to hide or escape to.
Even if you are lucky enough to get out of your house or find a safe place to hide most people are suddenly going to realise that a friend, relative or loved one is missing and feel the urge to go on a rescue mission. As in any zombie apocalypse if you are lucky enough to find a safe place to hide the easiest way to blow your chances of survival is to head off on a rescue mission.
Gangs, Crazy People and the Collapse of Society
Most people believe that if they live through a zombie apocalypse the only thing that they really have to worry about is zombies. Well, you might actually find that zombies are actually only a very small part of the problems that you are going to face.
During a zombie apocalypse there is going to be a huge breakdown in society. Television and radio stations will stop broadcasting and emergencies services like the police and fire department will no longer be in operation as everyone either tries to escape or is eaten by a zombie.
Without public services such as the police there will be no law and no order so all of a sudden you will have some pretty nasty people running around the streets with no one to keep them in check.
So before you start worrying about zombies jumping out on you consider this. Firstly you have no law and no order. This means that if you are lucky enough to have food supplies and a safe place to hide, zombies are not what you should be worrying about. You should be worrying about other survivors who will stop at nothing to take your safe place from you.
Secondly there are going to be plenty of people running around in a panic with no rules to live by and you could well find yourself in a really bad situation at the hands of a random gang. If the zombies do not kill you there is a good chance that other survivors will.
Living Without Modern Conveniences
If the crazy people running a mock don’t gang rape you and the zombies don’t eat you alive you could actually find your survival at risk due to the fact most people will be unable to survive without the aid of modern technologies.
Once a zombie apocalypse breaks out within a day or two services that provide electricity and clean our water will quickly shut down. It may seem like no big deal when it comes to living without electricity or clean water but it is actually a huge problem.
I am willing to bet that the majority of people reading this have no clue how to clean and sterilise water to make it safe for drinking. As we all know drinking dirty water can prove fatal. Then there is the problem of food. Without electricity you are going to have a hard job storing food and before you know it you are going to find yourself going hungry unless you happen to have a good knowledge of how to survive of the land. I will assume here that not many people know what plants would be safe to eat and what plants would be poisonous.
So, if the zombies and mad people don’t get to you then you will very likely find yourself dehydrated and starving to death sooner or later. Then if you don’t starve and don’t dehydrate you might want to consider how you are going to keep warm without electricity or a gas supply.
Insanity and Suicide
Let us consider now that you manage to hide from the zombies, escape the clutches of the mad people running around and have an intimate knowledge to survive in the wild. You may well think that you are all set and ready to live out your life in a post-apocalyptic world. I’m sorry to put a dampener on things but there is another problem that you will likely run into sooner or later.
The human race are sociable creatures who find it difficult to deal with traumatic events such as a zombie apocalypse. After all a zombie apocalypse could easily be described as the end of the world since everyone you have ever known is now dead and just the idea of thousands of walking corpses after your blood is more than traumatic.
If you combine the loneliness and the stress you are going to find that you, sooner or later, start suffering some form of depression along with some kind of post-traumatic stress disorder. With no one to confide in and all hope gone the odds are highly weighted towards you ending your days at the end of a rope or with a bullet in the head.
Looking at all the facts and the sheer unlikeliness that you will survive very long the best thing to do if you hear of a zombie apocalypse is get it over and done with as soon as you can. At least you can safe some bother.
